BIOGRAPHY
Matija Šantić stands behind the name „BRAT33“ in his contemporary artistic practice for the last 20 years. Born in 1980. In Zagreb, Croatia where he graduated from the School of Applied Arts and Design, majoring in scenography. Shortly after graduation, he began working in theater as a scenographer gaining a wide range of experience in numerous theaters throughout the country varying from puppet shows, children’s theater, drama and music theater. The development of his applied art skills led him to the film industy in 2012, where he gained further experience in the Art department as well as Set design. He participated in HBO, Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime productions in Croatia, helping develop some memorable film sets for international Film and TV series such as “Vikings: Vlahala”, “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan”, “Conversations with Friends” and many more.
To this day he works in film as well as theater, and exibits his work as an independent artist in various art galleries around the country.
He devotes all of his free time to further explore his artistic expression in all art forms and directions. All of his works are created spontaneously and very often provoked by the medium he is using, often inspired by the intricacies of circumstances on the workbench in his studio.
Influenced by film work, his exhibitions are always accompanied by some cinematic moments. He uses geometric forms, collages, and interventions on photographs to experiment with various materials, toys, and anything that fits within the frame at a particular moment of inspiration.
